Shrovetide Football Trip to Ashbourne
Our A Level PE students had a long day travelling to Derbyshire to watch the traditional Shrovetide Mob Football match in the Market Town of Ashbourne.
This is one of many activities that is studied as part of the History of Sport section of the course and it looks into traditional past times such as this which dates back reportedly from the 12th century. It really is an activity that needs to be seen to be believed and the students enjoyed this unique and boisterous game. The Up’Ards had the upper hand and went on to score a goal at 7.40pm to win the game 1 – 0 over the two days of play.
