Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition

The first team of students for many years have recently undertaken their Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Lake District in unbelievably challenging conditions. The weather was horrendous from the start and the rain did not let up for the four days that the group were walking and the group dynamics were tested to the limits as they were out from dawn until dark each day and then had to set up camp and cook in the rain also. The comments from the assessor were very complimentary of five students that completed the expedition and hopefully the students can look forward to receiving their award at one of the palaces in London from a member of the royal family once all the sections have been completed. The gold level of the award is certainly meant to be tough but I think this group faced the adverse conditions with determination and they certainly won’t forget the experience in a hurry.

Well done to all involved and we look forward to seeing growing numbers of students getting to and completing the gold level in the future as the Duke of Edinburgh Award grows and goes from strength to strength at Harton with record numbers involved at all levels.
