Year 8 – Industrial Action Information
Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 8
Industrial Action, Wednesday 5 and Friday 7 July 2023
I emailed you last week to advise you that the school would probably need to close on the above two dates in response to industrial action being led by the NEU. Harton has a very large number of NEU members on strike on these two days, as has been the case on the previous occasions this academic year. The two days in July fall during our Activities Week, so we have devised a contingency plan, whereby some school trips will still go ahead. The school will remain closed for most students.
Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the following information, directly related to the 5 and 7 July only.
The school will be closed to most Year 8 students (*see below) on Wednesday 5 and Friday 7 July.
The only exceptions are for the Purple, Brown and Black groups – details below. They will still be having surfboarding lessons or going to the Centre For Life respectively. Your child will know which colour their group is.
The colour groups below are all to meet at school, in the dining centre, at 8.30am. This may be a different starting point to the one we had originally agreed. Other arrangements, such as uniform and lunch remain unchanged.
All other Year 8 students are not expected to attend school.
Wednesday: trips still taking place (arrive at school, 8.30am)
- Year 8 – Purple – Surfboarding lesson
- Year 8 – Brown – Trip to Centre for Life
Friday: trips still taking place (arrive at school, 8.30am)
- Year 8 – Black – Trip to Centre for Life
- Year 8 – Brown – Surfboarding lesson
*On previous occasions, we have offered childcare places to Year 8 students, who would be supervised in school for the two strike days, when they would complete the same remote learning activities as their peers. If your child is not in the Purple, Brown and Black groups, but you would like them to come into school on the 5 and/or 7 July, pleased complete this link.
In closing, Miss Walker will be in touch next Tuesday 4th with details about remote working. She will provide you with a website link for suggested activities.
Once again, many thanks for your continued support during this period of industrial action.
Mr D. R. Amos
Acting Head Teacher
