Enrichment Programme

A core part of Harton Sixth Form from the early planning stages has been to develop an interesting, varied and worthwhile enrichment programme. This will be timetabled on a Wednesday afternoon for all students and will mean that students can develop very important life skills through a varied set of activities and experiences. In an ever competitive University and employment market it will really help ensure that Harton Sixth Form students have the edge and have plenty to say about themselves when it comes to applying to progress in the future.

Free Gym Access

All 6th form students can access the Harton gym during term time and we encourage them all to make the most of this opportunity. It is proven that having a healthy lifestyle and being active can have a positive impact on so many other aspects of life and is a key ingredient in developing nd maintaining positive mental health.

Fundraising and enterprise

Ever thought that you could be the next Richard Branson, apprentice or appear on Dragons Den this is a chance to explore and develop your business and enterprise skills. It could be that you are looking to develop ways of raising funds for the overseas expedition or to help support local charities. Either way developing your skills in a business environment will always be useful in the future and could uncover an interest that you never knew you had.

Debating

If you like to put your point of view across and discuss issues then this could be the option for you. You will be taught some of the basics of what is required in order to debate effectively and will have lots of time to research and practice these skills when looking at a variety of issues and topics. It can often be lively and heated but does focus on developing some vital skills in listening, preparing and communicating.

Digital Inclusion

A fantastic project that we have been involved with for many years which involves students working in an intergenerational programme in helping and supporting over 50 year local residents in becoming more confident and competent in using modern technology. It develops patience, communication and empathy and is a great way of helping others and can often hep people to be connected and is always very much appreciated. This has proved to be one of the most effective and popular enrichment choices and certainly enhances future progression applications.

Film and Board Games

For the film enthusiasts a chance to watch and discuss a variety of thought provoking and interesting movies with like-minded people. A great way to relax, unwind and develop analysis and evaluation skills in a different setting. We link this with playing a range of different board games which is not only fun but is a chance to meet new people and develop many key skills such as decision making, communication and problem solving.

First Aid

During this three weeks block you will learn and have the chance to gain a qualification in First Aid. It is a chance to learn a vital set of skills that could potentially save lives in the future and enhance any future progression application.

Golf Driving Range

A chance to either try for the first time or develop / refine your golf skills at the local driving range. A professional will be at hand to give hints and tips so that you have the confidence to take on a course and possibly continue playing in the future.

Primary School Placement

A great opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a primary school setting. It will allow you to build upon and develop a wide range of different skills such as communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork whilst making a real difference to other people’s lives. All student’s that have taken up this experience have certainly found it incredibly worthwhile and it has supported future progression applications.

Keelman’s Way School Placement

This is a demanding yet rewarding placement that allows you to work with children that experience a wide variety of learning and physical challenges. It will allow you to build upon and develop a wide range of different skills such as communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork whilst making a real difference to other people’s lives. Previous student’s that have taken up this experience have certainly found it incredibly worthwhile and it has supported future progression applications.

Sign Language

A chance to complete a 12 week block of learning a new and valuable skill that can really enhance the way you can communicate. It is always a popular choice and we bring in a specialist called Robin who really can develop your ability and confidence.

Ballroom Dancing

Ever fancied Strictly Come Dancing! – Here is your chance to get a head start in learning the basics of Ballroom dancing. It will undoubtedly be good fun and give you a real sense of achievement in learning and making good progress.

Yoga

Chance to relax and unwind from the stresses of modern life through being taught yoga and then being practicing this. It is a popular lifestyle choice for many and could really transform the way you live your life!

Becoming X Skill development

This is a leadership and skill development programme that focuses on the 14 key attributes of successful people as outlines in the Becoming X programme. It is delivered in a practical and fun way and will involve individual and team challenges, problem solving activities, leadership opportunities and also the opportunity for students to stretch their comfort zone.

Chemistry Skills booster

For A level Chemistry students this is an opportunity to develop and enhance practical skills and competences in an interactive way. It is delivered by a Chemistry specialist who runs his own company and will undoubtedly be enjoyable and a great learning experience.

Art and Craft skills / Up-cycling

If you want to get the creative juices flowing this is a great chance to learn and develop some creative skills in upcycling and making new things from a range of materials and in using a range of techniques. It is delivered by an incredibly talented member of staff who also has her own craft business and the quality of what is made is fantastic.

Each year we review and look to expand and offer different activities based on demand / staffing and space. We have and will look at offering: learning a language, music and sport in the future. We also encourage students to offer activities if they can and also to use the enrichment time to do other worthwhile activities such as work placements.
