2019 Kielder Challenge

A very big well done to the twenty six year 12 and 13 students that successfully completed the Kielder Challenge which consists of a 12 mile cycle and 14 mile walk around Kielder reservoir. The group had a very early start meeting at 5.50am and did not return until 8.00pm after a demanding day which finished under torch light in total darkness. Everyone showed fantastic determination and commitment throughout and many raised significant sponsorship to support their fundraising for the overseas expeditions that they will be going on in the future. Remembrance Service

On Friday 8 November, Harton Academy marked the Armistice in our annual Remembrance Service assemblies and we were delighted to welcome members of the neighbourhood and from a local care home, as we do every year. We are extremely honoured that our special guest, Mr Felix Wileneus, was able to visit us this morning, too. Felix was born in 1922 and is from South Shields. He joined the Allied invasion of Normandy in France on 6 June 1944, when, a few weeks later, he was seriously injured by shrapnel. South Shields Lecture

Once again, it was a privilege to welcome back the Rt Hon David Miliband for his tenth South Shields Annual Lecture at Harton Academy. This year, David’s special guest was non-other than Gary Lineker OBE who was an English former professional footballer and current sports broadcaster. Gary Lineker began his football career at Leicester City in 1978 and then played at Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and finally Nagoya Grampus Eight. Gary made his England debut in 1984, earning 80 caps and scoring 48 goals. He was top scorer in the1986 world cup and received the Golden Boot in 1990. He was honoured with the FIFA Fair Play A...
