We would like to give you advance notice that Tuesday 22 May will be a non-uniform day. As is tradition, the suggested donation per student will be £1.00. We will use this occasion to raise funds for the ‘Together Forever Trust’, set up in memory of two of South Tyneside’s own: Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry, who were killed in the Manchester Arena Bombings on 22 May 2017. Chloe was a pupil at Harton for five years, and we have marked the first anniversary of her and Liam’s tragic deaths with a series of memorial assemblies, led by two of Chloe’s close friends, Clodagh Denham and Katie Reed. World school games 2018 - Marrakesh-Casablanca Morocco Year 13 Harton student Rachel Taylor has just returned after representing the England swim team in the World School Games in Marrakesh, Morocco. The England swim team consisted of 24 swimmers from all over the country- 12 boys and 12 girls selected on the basis of national rankings. Rachel stayed in the Plam Plaza hotel with the England Swim Team in Marrakesh for two nights whilst training before the competition. In the searing heat on the bank holiday weekend record numbers of 6th form students completed their training of the expedition section of the award at both silver and gold level. Some students had completed the bronze and silver sections previously but for many it was their first time and certainly a learning experience. The groups camped for two nights and had two long walks learning key camp craft and navigation skills in the beautiful Teesdale area near High Force waterfall. Following an extensive consultation with students, parents and teachers, the Governing Body has decided to go ahead with the introduction of a new school uniform. This is in line with many schools locally and nationally and will ensure that Harton Academy students are proud to be dressed in a uniform that is both practical and attractive. The outcome of the consultation has led to a number of compromises being made to ensure that we are offering a uniform that is not only suitable for purpose but one which is in line with comments and responses.
