This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is ready to make a meaningful contribution to pupil progress, classroom practice and the wider life of a successful secondary school. If you are motivated by high standards, strong relationships and the chance to help young people thrive, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Harton Academy is a well-established secondary school and sixth form provider, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and inclusive education. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture of ambition, respect, and continuous improvement, where both students and staff are encouraged to reach their full potential. Our commitment to these values is reflected in our supportive environment, high standards, and dedication to preparing young people for success in an ever-changing world. As HLTA at Harton Academy, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to strengthen learning, raise achievement and ensure that every pupil is supported to succeed. You will have the opportunity to contribute across the full planning cycle, deliver structured support and intervention, and step confidently into class leadership when required. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who can combine strong classroom presence with a genuine commitment to inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff across the planning cycle, including the preparation and management of high-quality resources.
  • Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting continuity of learning.
  • Use advanced knowledge and skills to help plan, monitor and assess learning, while supporting pupils’ welfare, independence and full inclusion in school life.
  • Contribute to raising standards of achievement by working flexibly across classes, groups and interventions as required.

We are looking for a confident, organised and reflective practitioner who is ready to take responsibility and work as part of a dedicated team. The successful candidate will bring the professional judgement and interpersonal skills needed to build trust with pupils and staff alike, while remaining adaptable and resilient in a busy secondary environment.

 We’re Looking For:

  • Experience of teaching or leading classes or groups at Key Stage 3.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, supported by GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Have, or be willing to work towards, an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) qualification, or an equivalent relevant background.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisation and planning skills.
  • Experience of delivering support or intervention programmes.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and on your own initiative.
  • A flexible, resilient and professional approach to your work.
  • Excellent ICT skills.

Harton Academy is a school where staff are supported, valued and encouraged to grow. We understand the importance of investing in our people and creating the conditions in which colleagues can do their best work.

Benefits of Joining Our Team:

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment where your contributions are valued.
  • Clear pathways for continued career progression and leadership development.
  • Dedicated time for continuing professional development, ensuring you remain at the forefront of educational practice.
  • A comprehensive wellbeing strategy to support your work-life balance.
  • Access to a healthcare package as part of our commitment to staff welfare.
