12 Peaks Staff Fundraising Challenge

2025 – 12 Peaks Staff Fundraising Challenge

Following on from the National 3 Peaks and the 60 mile Yorkshire Coastal challenge, this year myself, Louise Cunningham and Sarah Houston will be taking on the 12 Peaks Challenge in the Lake District. The aim is to raise some additional funds for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme to help support the award that is offered to so many students at Harton. We have record numbers participating in the award and were looking to buy some additional kit and ensure we can keep the cost of participating on the award to an affordable level.

A few years ago, a fund was established in memory of Mr. Alan Williams, to support students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Mr. Williams led various expeditions and was incredibly passionate about developing young people and fostering a love for the great outdoors and adventure activities. Over £5000 has already been raised through the Go Fund Me page set up in Alan’s memory, and we are keen to try and boost this fund if possible. If you are willing to sponsor us it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what is said of the challenge: The Lake District 12 Peaks Challenge – is super tough! This challenge is a high level traverse across the high peaks of England and will test your endurance and strength. It is set in the stunningly, beautiful Lake District. The challenge is to climb 12 peaks in one go during which you will encounter difficult terrain, steep ascents (2878m) and descents along the way. It also has sections of mountain scrambling which only adds to the challenge and excitement on the day.

This is a very demanding challenge and it should not be underestimated. It requires a high level of fitness and thorough preparation. The route starts on the shores of Wast Water then heads north, around Mosedale valley taking in Yewbarrow 627m, Red Pike 821m, Steeple 843m, Pillar 892m, Kirk Fell 802m, Great Gable 899m and Green Gable 801m. We then head into the Scafell range taking in Scafell Pike 978m, Broad Crag 930m, Great End 910m, Allen Crag 785m and Glaramara 783m. From here you then head down to the finish at Seathwaite.

We will be taking this on in the summer holidays.

If you are able and willing to contribute it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks Miss Cunningham, Mrs Houston and Mr Burroughs
