Holocaust Survivor Webcast

9F1 participated in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s live webcast this morning to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024.

The speaker was Holocaust survivor Hedi Argent MBE interviewed by Natasha Kaplinsky OBE. This was an interactive and meaningful way to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024 as it allowed our students to put a human face to the histories they learn as they engaged with this one survivor’s personal experiences. Our Year 9 students have previously studied Hitler’s Germany and then World War Two and will be commencing lessons on the Holocaust this half term. This live webcast reinforced learning students had undertaken on Kristallnacht and anti-semitism previously. The Holocaust was a defining event in human history; its legacies continue to shape the modern world whilst the challenging questions it raises about human behaviour have universal relevance. Holocaust Memorial Day can therefore encourage us to reflect on our own actions and responsibilities, both as individuals and as a society. Holocaust Memorial Day is this Saturday, 27th January 2024.
