High Infection Case Rate
Dear Parents and Carers
This communication may be repeated with a later one from South Tyneside Council, but I am keen to share the message with you as soon as possible.
South Tyneside has now been identified as having an infection case rate of 1398 per 100,000 people. This is four times greater than the average rate in England (350 per 100,000 people), and perhaps, therefore, one of the highest rates in Europe. This figure is the published one at the time I am writing (16 July).
With this in mind, we are continuing to follow COVID-secure practices next week in school, despite the national guidelines changing from the 19 July. This is to ensure staff and children are kept as safe as possible in school for the remaining week. We have ordered additional facemasks, should your child forget theirs, and urge you to reiterate the hand and respiratory hygiene messages to them, please. Next week’s in-school practices are in essence the same as they are this week.
Many thanks to every one of you for your huge support of what we are trying to do to keep your child and our staff safe.
Best wishes for a sun-filled weekend.
Mr D. R. Amos
Head of School
