Remembrance Service Assemblies

Today, Harton has marked the Armistice in our annual Remembrance Service assemblies and we were delighted to welcome members of the neighbourhood and from Cheviot Court Care Home, as we do every year.

We are extremely honoured that one of our special guests, Fred Birks, was able to visit us this morning, too. Fred served in the 11th Hussars and was stationed in the Persian Gulf. He is a true gent and it was humbling to meet such a fine role model to our students.

I would like to offer my personal appreciation to every member of our school community for helping to ensure Harton acknowledges this occasion with the dignity and respect it deserves. Our site staff turned the hall into an oasis of calm, and our senior prefects read beautifully, the band played wonderfully and our two singers were stunning. Special thanks to them all and to Joseph Meston, our ex-Head Boy, for his stunning performance of the Last Post and the Reveille.

It is so very important that our students fully appreciate the on-going sacrifices made by so many from our armed services. Having Fred and our friends visit us can only serve as a poignant reminder of this.
