NEU Industrial Action, 15 and 16 March

Dear Parents and Carers

NEU Industrial Action, 15 and 16 March

As you may be aware, the final two days of industrial action by members of the NEU will take place next week, on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March. Unlike the previous two days of strikes, these are two consecutive days. During both strike days in February, Harton had a significant number of teachers (well over 60%) not in school. Therefore, I must assume that the same will apply on the 15th and 16th. As a result, we will, unfortunately, be closed to students again on the 15 and 16 March, which we know is far from ideal, but we absolutely must be able to safeguard our students with confidence.

Please note:

  • It is essential that the students take advantage of the remote learning tasks, which the school will be providing for these two days. These will be available on the main school website and via a link, emailed to both parents and students. An email will follow.
  • Such tasks will be consolidation work for Years 7-10 and Year 12 students.
  • For Year 11 and 13 students, in the throes of preparing for their summer public examinations, they have plenty of revision to be getting on with. They absolutely need to use these two days for exam preparation. All of their teachers will have provided plenty of revision tasks over recent weeks and months. There are numerous links for Year 11 & 13 students, again on the website.
  • Once again, we are keen to offer the support to families of younger children on these two days. Therefore, if you have a child in Year 7 or 8, we are offering the option of supervising your child in school.
    o They must wear full school uniform;
    o The start and finish times for the school day are the same as usual;
    o They will be supervised whilst completing the same remote learning work as their peers who will be at home – this is to support our families with childcare only;
    o If you would like your child to come to school on the 15 and 16 March, please complete the Microsoft Form in the link, here. This must be completed by Monday 13 March, so we can plan the supervision and the students’ meals.
  • If the strike days are cancelled before the 15 and 16 March, the school will communicate this to you all ASAP. If this were to happen, full attendance by all students on these two days would be expected.

Please accept my apologies for this disruption, and please do encourage your child to work from home.

Best wishes.

Mr D. R. Amos
Acting Head Teacher
