Belrobics
Belrobics is a belly dance inspired fitness class, suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes.
Spinning
Using indoor stationary bikes, class participants will experience a fun, challenging & exhilarating workout. The instructor will lead and motivate you through a series of phases on your bike but you can control the intensity at which you work.
Legs, Bums & Tums
A low impact class that uses exercises to condition, tone and strengthen targeted areas of the lower body, including muscles in the thighs, abdominals and buttocks.

Piloxing
A muscle-toning, fat-burning cardio fusion that blends the power, speed & agility of boxing with exhilarating dance moves and the targeted sculpting and flexibility of pilates to burn maximum calories, build lean muscle & increase stamina, leaving you feeling physically & mentally empowered.
Circuits
A series of aerobic & resistance based exercises using various pieces of equipment as well as your own body weight. Circuit classes are designed to improve all round physical fitness and allow you to work at your own level of fitness.
SalsaTone
A dance fitness workout that uses steps from the salsa, cha cha & samba, fused with aerobic moves to improve cardiovascular fitness as well as toning your whole body.
MetaBlast
A high intensity interval training (HIIT) class that uses traditional body weight exercises in work/rest intervals to improve overall physical fitness.
Core
Exercises that concentrate on strengthening the muscles of the abdominals & lower back, which in turn helps improve posture, balance, day-to-day functioning & overall sporting performance.
Yoga
A flow of postures along with conscious breathing and mental focus to develop awareness, strength, muscle tone, balance, flexibility, correct body alignment, relaxation & a sense of well-being.
Hatha Yoga
A flow of postures along with conscious breathing and mental focus to develop awareness, strength, muscle tone, balance, flexibility, correct body alignment, relaxation & a sense of well-being.
Beginners Circuits
The same approach as a normal circuit class but using more basic exercises to allow you to develop the correct technique & boost your confidence, as well as improving your physical fitness.
Pilatone
Non weight-bearing exercises, using correct body alignment & breathing techniques to lengthen, tone, strengthen & stabilise the body.
Business & Enterprise
Ever thought that you could be the next Richard Branson, apprentice or appear on Dragons Den this is a chance to explore and develop your business and enterprise skills. It could be that you are looking to develop ways of raising funds for the True Adventure Expedition or to help support local charities. Either way developing your skills in a business environment will always be useful in the future and could uncover an interest that you never knew you had. There are additional opportunities to possibly develop these skills further as part of the Young Enterprise Team that will design and set up a business and compete in the regional and hopefully national finals.

Critical Thinking
An opportunity to gain an additional AS qualification that will enable you to develop some key higher level skills which will certainly benefit the other subjects you are studying. It is a challenging yet interesting course and additional details can be found under the AQA Baccalaureate section under courses on the Harton 6th Form Website. This option would run all year and mean that you would be unable to select any other enrichment choices due to the requirements of the course. Students wishing to complete the AQA Baccalaureate would need to take either this qualification or General Studies as part of the qualification.
Debating
If you like to put your point of view across and discuss issues then this could be the option for you. You will be taught some of the basics of what is required in order to debate effectively and will have lots of time to research and practice these skills when looking at a variety of issues and topics. It can often be lively and heated but does focus on developing some vital skills in listening, preparing and communicating.
Digital Inclusion Project
A fantastic project that we have been involved with for many years which involves students working in an intergenerational programme in helping and supporting over 50 year local residents in becoming more confident and competent in using modern technology. It develops patience, communication and empathy and is a great way of helping others and can often hep people to be connected and is always very much appreciated. This has proved to be one of the most effective and popular enrichment choices and certainly enhances future progression applications.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Training
For any students that have applied and are involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme they must select this enrichment activity if they have not already completed the Bronze level of the award. Students will be taught the basics of map reading and camp craft as practically as possible so that they are ready and fully prepared for expedition section of the award. The Duke of Edinburgh Award will be advertised early in the academic year and additional details will be issued to students. The Award is incredibly well thought of by future employers who all recognise the level of commitment that is necessary to successfully complete the award.
Extended Project Qualification
The Extended Project is a Level 3 qualification that is open to all pupils undertaking study at Harton Sixth Form. It will help students develop the knowledge and skills that will be required of them when undertaking similar projects in HE. It is available in the form of: As a stand-alone qualification. Learners may choose to take the Extended Project Qualification as an extension from studies for any other qualifications at Level 3 (for example GCE, BTEC) As part of the AQA Baccalaureate The beauty of the EPQ is that it allows students freedom and choice in shaping their own education. They can pick a topic that extends an aspect of a subject they are studying or a topic in which they have a real personal interest. The student chooses a topic and is allocated a supervisor. The onus is on the learner from the outset; they must show that they can plan, deliver and present an original piece of work at A2 standard. Features of the course include: Designing and planning the project Managing information and research Selecting and evaluating a range of resources Analysing information Evaluating the project and learning processes Presenting the project outcomes using a range of communication skills.
Film Club
For the film enthusiasts a chance to watch and discuss a variety of thought provoking and interesting movies with like-minded people. A great way to relax, unwind and develop analysis and evaluation skills in a different setting.
First Aid Rock Climbing
If you would like to learn the basics of first aid and to combine this with developing your rock climbing skills this could be the option for you. It is a chance to develop your confidence and get outside of you comfort zone and to learn a skill that could potentially save lives in the future and enhance any future progression application.
Fitness Suite – Table Tennis
An opportunity to enhance your level of fitness and improve your health by using the Wellness fitness suite and Harton swimming pool.
FloRider – Rock Climbing
If you like adventurous and new activities this is the chance to try surfing or body boarding at the Flow Rider surf simulator for 3 sessions and to learn the basics of rock climbing on Harton’s indoor climbing wall. It is a chance to develop your confidence and get outside of you comfort zone. You never know it may open up a whole new world of adventure.
Football Coached by NUFC
Working with the Newcastle United Football Foundation we have fully trained Newcastle United coaches who deliver coaching sessions and games during the enrichment programme. It is not just for those that play at a high level but for anyone who enjoys football and wants to develop, improve and have fun in a competitive environment.
Garden Community Project
A new project that we have been working on with local partners that allows young people to get fully involved in a community garden and allotment project. The aim is to maintain and develop a fully operational community Garden scheme and may lead to other exciting opportunities in setting up a community enterprise scheme.
Golf Driving Range
A chance to either try for the first time or develop / refine your golf skills at the local driving range. A professional will be at hand to give hints and tips so that you have the confidence to take on a course and possibly continue playing in the future.
Harton Junior Primary School Placement
A great opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a primary school setting. It will allow you to build upon and develop a wide range of different skills such as communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork whilst making a real difference to other people’s lives. Keelmans Way Special Way
This is a demanding yet rewarding placement that allows you to work with children that experience a wide variety of learning and physical challenges. It will allow you to build upon and develop a wide range of different skills such as communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork whilst making a real difference to other people’s lives. Previousstudent’s that have taken up this experience have certainly found it incredibly worthwhile and it has supported future progression applications.
Learning to speak a new language
During this enrichment activity you will learn the basics of a new language so that you can get by when you visit different countries. Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to learn Chinese, Russian, German, Spanish and sign language and may give you the motivation to study it at a higher level in the future.
Literacy award winners
The Literacy Leader Award teaches leadership skills and enables successful candidates to lead small groups in simple literacy based activities (for example, teaching the basic structure of a sentence) whilst under direct supervision of their tutor. The Literacy Leader Award is broken down into six units, some of which tackle the generic leadership skills such as communication and organisation whilst others focus on subject specific skills such as understanding the basic principles of literacy and running a literacy event.
Magazine production
An opportunity to become a journalist and get involved in producing a Sixth Form magazine.
Music
An opportunity to try or develop your musical skills and work together to make a group or band that can perform for fun or at school events. In the past it has been great to see musical talents come together and to listen to what has been produced.
Photography
This activity gives students the chance to learn and develop their creative skills through photography. You will learn the basics of how to use the many functions of a camera and then have opportunity to practice and discuss these skills and build up a portfolio of your own work both in and around the school and in the local area. It is maybe the chance to try photography for the first time or build upon skills you already have.
Save the Children Shop Placement
We work in partnership with the Save the Children shop at the Nook. There is the opportunity to volunteer within the shop and will you to gain confidence in meeting and working with new people and to develop a range of different skills. This opportunity can take place at other times during the week or at weekends but can take place as part of the enrichment programme. Application forms will need to be completed prior to starting this placement.
Self Organised Placement
The importance and value of work experience / job shadowing can’t be stressed enough and increasingly universities and future employers often want students to have had significant work experience often in a variety of places. It is also vital in raising awareness of what is involved in certain industries so that students are able to make informed decisions about their future aspirations and plans. This is an opportunity for you to organise a regular Wednesday afternoon placement or for you to let us know the type of placement that you are looking for so that we can assist. All year 12 students will have a week allocated towards the end of the year where you will be expected to sort a placement.
Traditional Board Games
Time to put all the electronic gadgets and devises away and enjoys some old fashioned traditional fun playing board games such as Monopoly, Connect 4, Chess, Cluedo. Not only a chance to play retro games but also to meet and work with new and different people and maybe learn some new ways of having enjoying yourself.

Team Working

Body Shock
A whole body workout designed to push the participants to their maximum effort level & shock the body. A variety of exercises each week keeps the class fun & interesting.
Zumba
A total body workout, which combines all fitness elements, in a way that will make you feel like you’re at a party. Often described as exercise in disguise, a Zumba class mixes low & high intensity dance moves to fun International music tracks.
