Remembrance Service Assemblies

Today, Harton has marked the Armistice in our annual Remembrance Service assemblies and we were delighted to welcome members of the neighbourhood and from Cheviot Court Care Home, as we do every year. We are extremely honoured that our special guest, Jan Clarke, was able to visit us this morning, too. Jan was in the RAF in the 1950s and 1960s, and had some interesting stories to share, although she kept a lot from us, due to the Official Secrets Act!

I would like to offer my personal appreciation to every member of our school community for helping to ensure Harton acknowledges this occasion with the dignity and respect it deserves. Our site staff turned the We Will Rock You hall into an oasis of calm in record time! Our senior prefects read beautifully, the band played wonderfully and our two singers were stunning. Special thanks to them all and to Joseph Meston for his stunning performance of the Last Post and the Reveille.

It is so very important that our students fully appreciate the on-going sacrifices made by so many from our armed services. Having Jan and our friends visit us can only serve as a poignant reminder of this.
