Rainbow Flag Award – LGBTQ+

Harton Academy believes that respecting and valuing individual differences and the appreciation of, and promotion of, inclusion and diversity are crucial if every child is to thrive.

At Harton Academy, we are committed to instilling values of acceptance and mutual respect that children and young people will carry with them throughout their lives.

Harton Academy is currently in the process of applying for the Rainbow Flag Award.

The Rainbow Flag Award has been set up as a framework for schools. The award focuses on positive inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and it is a whole-school inclusive approach that also develops strategies to effectively challenge phobic bullying.

In September 2023, Harton Academy was awarded The Rainbow Flag Award: Skilled Teacher Award. There are six sections to gain before achieving a full Rainbow Flag Award:

1. Skilled Teacher
2. Supportive Governors and Parents
3. Effective Policies
4. Pastoral Support
5. Inclusive curriculum
6. Student voice

Harton Academy is making progress well with the remaining sections of the Rainbow Flag Award, whilst making our school a more inclusive and diverse institution.
